Know Before You Go: Preparing for Florida Weather at the OCCC

From busy show floors and educational sessions to networking opportunities and special events, there is always something happening at The Center of Hospitality.

But in Central Florida, there is one more thing that visitors should plan for – the weather.

Florida is known for sunshine, warm temperatures and blue skies, but the forecast can change quickly. A bright morning can turn into an afternoon shower, and warm outdoor temperatures can feel very different once you step inside an air-conditioned meeting room or exhibit hall. Whether you are attending a multi-day convention, exhibiting on the show floor or visiting the OCCC for the first time, a little preparation can help you stay comfortable and focused throughout your meeting.

Here are a few simple ways to prepare for Florida’s unpredictable weather before your next visit to the OCCC.

Dress for the Forecast

When planning what to wear, start with the forecast, but keep flexibility in mind. Light, breathable clothing is often the best choice for warm Central Florida days, especially if your schedule includes walking between buildings, parking areas, hotels or outdoor spaces.

At the same time, indoor temperatures can feel cooler in large exhibit halls, meeting rooms and conference spaces. Bringing a light sweater or jacket can help you stay comfortable as you move between outdoor heat and air-conditioned areas throughout the day.

Comfortable shoes are also a must. The OCCC campus spans 7 million square feet, and visitors often do more walking than they expect. From exhibit halls and registration areas to meeting rooms, food courts and concourses, supportive footwear can make a big difference in helping you enjoy your event.

Pack a Few Weather Essentials

Florida’s fast-moving showers can arrive with little warning, so packing a small umbrella or lightweight rain jacket is a simple way to stay prepared. Even if the forecast looks clear, having rain gear on hand can help you move between areas more comfortably if the weather shifts during the day.

Hydration is just as important. Central Florida’s heat and humidity can be strong, especially during warmer months or after time spent outdoors. Bringing a refillable water bottle is a smart way to stay refreshed while reducing waste. With water stations available throughout the Center, guests can refill as needed and keep moving through their day.

A small bag with a few essentials, such as a portable charger, sunglasses and any personal items you may need, can also help make your visit easier.

Plan Your Route Around Campus

Because the OCCC is such a large campus, planning your route can help you save time, reduce stress and avoid unnecessary exposure to changing weather. Before heading to your next session, hall or meeting space, take a moment to map out where you are going.

Wayfinding kiosks located throughout the Center can help you navigate between concourses, meeting rooms, exhibit halls and key amenities. Depending on your route, you may be able to stay indoors longer, choose a more direct path or find areas with more cover, if rain moves through.

This is especially helpful during large-scale events, when attendees may be moving between multiple sessions or buildings throughout the day. Knowing your path before you start walking can help you arrive on time and make the most of your visit.

With a little planning, you will be ready for whatever Florida weather brings and can make the most of your time at The Center of Hospitality, rain or shine.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
