Orange County Convention Center hires Owner’s Representative for North-South Building Improvements

The Orange County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners approved the Orange County Convention Center to enter into contract with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. for owner’s representative services in execution of the North-South Building Improvements.

AECOM Technical Services will provide project management support of the $605 million project, which includes the Convention Way Grand Concourse and the Multipurpose Venue. AECOM’s team has previously worked with Convention Center leaders on project management and provided owner’s rep services during the original construction of the North-South Building.

The AECOM team brings years of experience and a support network of project professionals having worked in convention centers, airports and schools around the country. Founded in 1990 as a combination of several companies, AECOM has 87,000 employees. The team has the broad talents, youthful enthusiasm and previous experience with Phase V construction to pave the way for the biggest project at the Orange County Convention Center.

“We are thrilled to be working again with the AECOM Technical Services team, especially on a project that will improve a building they have a connection with,” said Jessie Allen, the Center’s Interim Executive Director. “Naming an Owner’s Rep was a critical component in our process and we’re ready to move forward as a world-class facility with an eye on improvements.”

The Board of County Commissioners’ action paves the way for OCCC leaders to continue work on two projects that will improve and enhance the North-South Building:

  • Convention Way Grand Concourse – an enclosed, air conditioned connection between the North and South concourses that includes 60,000 square feet of meeting space, an 80,000-square-foot ballroom and a grand entrance to the North-South building along Convention Way.
  • Multipurpose Venue – a 200,000-square-foot, flexible, divisible, column-free space with a combination of retractable and floor seating to accommodate between 18,000-20,000 attendees.  This project will also incorporate connectivity between the North and South concourses.
