As we close out another busy year at the Center of Hospitality, we reflect on the success we’ve had during our 35th year in operation. Not only did we officially start the process for our planned North-South Building Improvements project, but we were the venue chosen to host the swearing in ceremony of our new mayor and three new commissioners. That historic event had the largest-ever attendance for an Orange County oath of office ceremony, with 1,400 residents witnessing Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings taking the oath of office in our North Concourse earlier this month.
It has been our second busiest year, with 2017 being the first, and we do not plan on slowing down. In fiscal year 2017-2018, we welcomed 193 events and nearly 1.5 million attendees, resulting in an estimated economic impact of $2.1 billion in the Central Florida region.
Additionally, show organizers continued to prove their support for Orlando and Central Florida by giving back to the local community whenever possible. More than ten nonprofit organizations benefited from event donations with an estimated $2 million in goods donated.
Beyond everything that made 2018 a blockbuster year for us here at the OCCC, we’re pleased to be kicking off 2019 with an all-new, four-year contract with our current food service partner, Centerplate.
From tech leaders to cosplayers to athletes, the OCCC welcomed a diverse and vibrant group of guests in 2018 and we cannot wait to see what 2019 will bring us. Check out the video below for event highlights of the year.
